: I haven't taken the points off yet but mine did the same thing. Can somebody help us?
: I have a 76 Honda TL125S and recently took everything apart and painted the whole works. I reassembled it and it ran fine for months (not under heavy use) until one day it almost completely stopped sparking. I took off the points and right behind the round, rotating plate that the points are on, there is a mechanism for changing the timing as the engine speed increses. I think this is where my problem is, but I have no idea what the problem is.

: When I took the plate (that holds the points) off, there was a shredded gasket stuck behind. It would appear that when the mechanism behind was spinning around it somehow got off axis and started to grind into the gasket, and then a little bit into the metal itself. I was thinking that this gasket on the rear of the points plate was for electrical insulation but it appears that the rest of it is in contact so that doesn't make much sense. The points are clean. The spark plug is new. And I even tried a different coil but I always get 1 or 2 tiny sparks for every 5 or so kicks of the starter. PLEASE HELP! What is my problem? What can I do?
